There are many companies promising you that they can make you number one in the google search results. They promise the world and act like they have special secret knowledge of the magic google formula.

This is just a lot of nonsense. Nobody really knows the exact google algorithm and you don't really need to know. Three things are the most important and will be enough for almost all businesses to focus on.

1. Good relevant content

Getting found has all to do with having the right and relevant content. Google brings people to your website when it thinks you might have the answer for the user. So the first and most important step is to write good and relevant content with the use of the right keywords.

2. Good clean code

All websites are build with the help of html code and styled with stylesheets. And if you got a CMS (Content Management System) the content is generated by php, python or another proramming language. Rubbish websites use to much or the wrong code to display your content. "why would I care about geeky code" I hear you say. Well Google uses robots to crawl each website to determine what the website is about. If the website is build well, the right tags and code is used so google understands the structure of the pages and what is really important on these pages. For example if your title of your page is put in the code like < p >Page Title< /p >, google thinks it is just another piece of text. If the title would have been put between heading tags like < h1 >Pagetitle< /h1 > it understands that this is the most important title of the page.

3. Inbound links

Last and certainly not least is the imbound links. What made Google so revolutionairy is that Larry Page (one of the founders of google) thought of the "Pagerank" system. Basically this system calculates how many other websites link to your website. It figures that websites that are been linked to very much are more important then websites that are les often been linked to. Besides the quantity of the links it also has puts a value on the links. If a very popular website with a high pagerank links to you website it counts more then links from websites of less popular websites. That is why it is very important to get links on other websites to yours.

Ofcourse there are a zillion other things that might have influence on your pagerank but if you got these three things right I bet you will definitely be found.
